What is image uploading & Cataloguing?
Basically image uploading involves copying a picture from a user's computer to the server, testing that it meets the right criteria (like image size, virtual size, image fortmat etc) and then moving it to a new, permanent location.

Cataloguing involves uploading a record of the image to a database in such a way that the image may be retrieved via the database record. This might involve searching by things like size, format, category (if uploaded using a form with these sorts of options).

I always re-name my uploaded pictures too. This allows for me to be 99% sure that users won't upload any pictures that will delete or over-write other images. For example, if I had a cat website, I might have one user upload "cat.jpg".

The likelihood of getting another cat.jpg is very high. So I'd rename all images to be a strange code like "cat_site_encode" (the stranger the better) followed by the number of the corresponding record in the database... like this:
